Today the GCM and I rode a loop of the bike course (The course here in Lake Placid is 2×90km loops) and then some . . . I know I have said this before, but this bike course is no joke. We are in the mountains up here and thus mountains are what we are riding. But all that climbing yields us some beautiful views!

I am the speck in the distance here . . .

There were times during our ride that I was sure we were no longer on the course because my surroundings looked so unfamiliar (and I’ve done this race twice before), but it turned out that I was actually just seeing the scenery–which I had never really noticed while I was busy smashing myself on race day. So while I knew this course was beautiful, I didn’t realize the full extent of it til today. The GCM went camera-happy on the bike and repeatedly declared his love for this course, which seemed to increase with the sight of each additional climb. He ultimately concluded that he “might love this course even more than (Ironman) Wisconsin,” which is somewhat frightening, given that he led off the bike there by something like 12 minutes, and then went on to win by a similar margin.
This evening we had a lovely sunset swim-course adventure. This time the GCM was allowed his wetsuit . . .

And then he decided to take pictures so that Ms. Bossy could see how she looks in action: “We are not “just swimming” two loops! We have a strategy. The strategy is: half loop warm up, half loop sprinting every second buoy, half loop steady, half loop sprinting every third buoy. Got it?!”

The place looks awesome . I loved to race there once.
Have a great race!!
Beautiful course! I’ve heard of it’s difficulty and know that you will kill it next weekend! Can’t wait to see you dominate at IM WI as well!
Oh you are making me wish I never took this off my plan… it looks spectacular (but really cold). Go get em Hill- hope your race is all around good fun and fast times!
I’m sure GCM was very happy to have his wetsuit on! It looks c-o-l-d!
