29 August 09: Big Weekend!

There will be no shortage of excitement here in Tucson this weekend. As if the virtual-ironman-spectating extravaganza tomorrow weren’t enough, I will also be doing my first-ever bike race tomorrow morning.

Frightening, I know. (Bike ride-able miniskirts courtesy of K-Swiss!)
Anyways, some of the local super-cyclist chicks needed a fourth for a 40-km team time trial tomorrow [...]

27 August 09: Tuesday, Mt. Lemmon Day!

“Tuesday, Mt. Lemmon Day!” was originally dated 26 August, but here I am on Thursday morning having to change the blog entry date. Because, yes,  continuing with the theme of my last post, I got too tired somewhere mid-way through posting the pictures and just had to go to bed! While training and racing are [...]

24 August 09: It’s getting quiet in here . . .

As of this weekend, we have officially entered the phase of my training during which the GCM starts to worry that I am angry with him because I stop talking. This may be hard to believe, but it does happen on occasion. Of course, while cycling with the GCM, I am almost always non-verbal, but I am referring [...]

20 August 09: Thursday Swim-Only Day!

People often ask me if I take a day off. During some of my training cycles, I have a “rest day,” but this means a day with nothing but a longer swim. Days completely off rarely happen–usually just the day two days prior to an ironman race. And even then, I often opt to swim [...]

19 August 09: Tuesday Mt. Lemmon Day!

After I opted to climb Mt. Lemmon during last Wednesday’s brick, Coach concluded that this ride would work perfectly for our Tuesday morning brick in my fall training block. This means that I get to try to do a solid pace up the 25-mile climb every Tuesday morning as part of my brick session (or bike-run, [...]

17 August 09: Someone’s getting a new home appliance . . .

The boys on the bike yesterday
But not us!:) Maiki had a strong race yesterday in Oregon at the Hulaman Tri, but our friend Lukey (McKenzie) was just a little bit stronger on the day. Maiki tells me that Lukey and his better half, Amanda, had a deal about a new car radio for their “home,” or [...]

14 August 09: Home Sweet Home

My first weekend back home started off well today: it included a long-awaited reunion with my BFF, the treadmill. I didn’t have access to one in Germany, so I believe it has been since April that we have spent quality time together. While I’ve found that it always takes awhile to get used to the [...]

12 August 09: Business Time

Last week was the longest visit I’ve been able to spend with my family in Palos Verdes in two years. This time was particularly special because my little sis was there, too. The only problem with visiting my hometown is that I run around like a headless chicken while I am there because there are so [...]

9 August 09: Wedding Week in Palos Verdes

No, the GCM and I did not run off and get hitched. However, after the incredible wedding we attended last night, complete with a surprise visit from the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band, I have concluded that I might actually have a wedding someday. Just so that I can have the band at my [...]

6 August 09: A Full Night of Running!

Yesterday was the first day I was not a complete zombie (and could pretty much walk without a noticeable limp), so I think I have collected enough brain cells to report on Saturday’s night-running adventure.
With Maiki and Jules pre-race. That ipod didn’t get switched on once, as I had to use all of my concentration to [...]
